Microsoft has developed a very large number of Operating Systems over the years. Each one an improvement over the last, some, of course, had their problems but each one move Microsoft Windows forward.
The table below will show you all Microsoft Operating Systems, their release date, and their current support status. I am going to do my best to keep this as up to date as possible so it is the only resource you need.
Mainstream support is the first support phase of the product life-cycle. In this phase, Microsoft will include incident support (no-charge, charged, and warranty claims). Microsoft will also security updates and the ability to request non-security updates.
Extended support is what follows the Mainstream support and it included paid support, security updates, ability to request non-security updates but only for Unified Support customers.
Everything in total RED is out of support which means it no longer gets patches or more importantly security updates. These operating systems should be removed from your environment as soon as possible.
