Do you want to change your career?

Are you looking for a career in IT?

I would love to help!

I was into Technology from a very young age

I can’t really say that I have had it hard.  My family was by no means rich but at a very young age I was fascinated with technology and computers. I was the kid that took his toys apart to try and figure out how they worked.  I remember first getting dial-up internet and we were all sitting around my father’s laptop in awe at the internet across a 28.8 kbs connection 🙂

My father was luckily in a position at his job where he would bring home old computer equipment that was being thrown away.  I remember getting a massive 386 desktop computer that was about the size of a rack mounted server. If you don’t recognize the term 386 well that was the processor speed.  My cell phone now has more processing power and RAM than that computer did. However, I would tear the computer apart and rebuild it over and over again just for the fun of it.

Very similar computer to what I had as a child

I would love to help give back to a profession that has been so good to me.

Well, I again can’t say that I have had it hard.  Because life has been good to me I really would like to help as many people as I can who want to improve their life with a career in IT.

What Does A Systems Administrator Do?

Now you may be asking yourself, “What does a Systems Administrator Do?”.  Systems Administrators wear many different hats and the responsibilities vary from company to company.  But typically a Systems Administrator performs the following tasks:

  • Maintains DataCenters
  • Builds Servers
  • Configures Software
  • Maintains Servers and Software running on those servers
  • Becomes an expert in that software
  • Implements Monitoring to proactively find and fix problems
  • Stays up to date on the latest security vulnerabilities and makes sure servers and software are patched

Now that is a very small vague list and I kept it that way on purpose because in some companies the Systems Administrator may also be the Network Administrator or the Database Administrator or the Security Analyst.  Each of these titles is very specific but Systems Administrator can sometimes be a catch-all for different specialties.

What is so great about being a Systems Administrator?

I found that being a Systems Administrator has given me great insight into just about every IT discipline there is out there.  With that kind of experience and knowledge, I was easily able to find a specialty that I really enjoyed.

Now I do consider myself a jack of all trades with it comes to Systems Administration but VoIP and other communications are really where my specialty and excitement is.
